The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is an international organization established in 1946. UNICEF has been working in Georgia since 1995 to assist the Government of Georgia in protecting the rights of the child and fulfilling its obligations under the Convention on the Child Rights.

UNICEF implemented a national program in Georgia from 2016 to 2020 with the following priorities: Young Children’s Survival and Development, Social Protection and Inclusion, Justice for Children and Child Rights Monitoring.

Priority areas are:

  • Supporting children during their early years (from conception to 6 years of age) and help their families to ensure a conducive, nurturing environment for children;
  • Building a proactive and child-sensitive social protection system;
  • Enhancing the quality of, and access to, pre-school and primary education for all children;
  • Ensuring vulnerable families’ being able to access child-friendly social services and social inclusion of children with disabilities and th victims of violence;
  • Establishing a child-friendly justice system;
  • Supporting children and women in Abkhazia to access quality health, education and social services.
